Soft Commodity Investment Criteria

This series of information graphics was developed in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) as part of a guidance report for loan officers at international financial institutions. The report provides a summary framework for mainstream financial actors to promote the global sustainability of 10 major global ‘soft’ commodity sectors: aquaculture; beef; cotton; dairy; palm oil; soy; sugar; timber; pulp; and paper; wild caught seafood; and biofuels. These sectors are identified as high priority by WWF due to the depth and significance of their current and potential impacts on global biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water use.
